Delabole is famous the world over for its vast slate quarry.
Slate has been quarried here for over 400 years, first by
men and mules and now by explosives and mechanical trucks.
The village of Delabole was formed by the combination of
the three hamlets of Pengelly, Medrose and Rockhead. Slate
was being excavated from here when Shakespeare was writing
Hamlet and when Drake was fighting in the Armada. |
